| The mission of school driver education
programs is to provide students with opportunities to develop the skills,
knowledge, motivation, and behaviors that promote responsible and safe
driving! |
|
|
To enroll in driver's education,
students must have reached their fifteenth birthday and be able to
obtain a restricted license. Classroom instruction satisfies the four
hour requirement for the Drugs, Alcohol, and Traffic Safety education
(DATE) program which must be completed prior to obtaining a restricted
license.
Schools participate in the Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program
(DELAP) in conjunction with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor
Vehicles. Students who have demonstrated mastery of specific student
performance standards may receive a waiver for the driver's license
written examination. Students who successfully complete the driver
education course may receive a waiver for the driver's license road
test. The Division of Driver Licenses reserves the right to spot check
students by administering a written examination and a road test. |
Students who satisfactorily complete
this course will receive a certificate which may reduce insurance rates.
Students cannot receive credit unless they pass both the classroom
and driving phases of the course. |
