The College Board's Advanced Placement Program allows students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. AP Courses, which include studies in Englies, mathematics, science, and art are taught on campus at Washington High School.
Admission to the AP Program is based on teacher recommendation and the student's acaemic performance. Students who have done well in honors andgifted classes are encouraged to enter the AP program.
The AP Program offers manyadvantages over basic cources. Many students who participate in the AP Program are exempt from introductory courses in college and may also be granted a full year of university of college credit. College credit is granted to a student based upon his or her score on the AP exam.
Students must earn a score of 3 to 5 to potentially earn college credit. High school honor points are awarded for each class taken, regardless of whether or not a passing score is obtrained on the test. The AP Program also offers several prestigious awards for high school students who demonstrate college-level achievement on AP exams.
